Simple Mobile Pros and Cons: All You Need to Know Before You Sign Up

Simple Mobile is a small carrier that operates on T-Mobile's network to provide excellent low- and mid-data cell phone plans all over the country. Simple Mobile has a good set of cell phone plans, good new-customer deals, and immense multi-line savings to create an attractive service for MVNO enthusiasts. 

In our Simple Mobile review, we will go over their plans, what sets them apart, what we like and what we don’t like, and much more! 

Simple Mobile Pros and Cons

There are a lot of cell phone providers on the market, making it difficult to decide which one is the best for you. In this section, we will cover the pros and cons of Simple Mobile to help you decide whether or not this carrier is right for you. There are many factors to this decision, including data consumption, coverage, price, phone selection, cell phone plans, customer service, and more.

PRO — Cell Phone Plans

Simple Mobile has a good set of cell phone plans that offer between 3 and 40 GB of high-speed data with various add-ons and prices. All plans come with unlimited talk and text, and Simple Mobile’s phone plans have a lot to bring to the table. Let’s break them down. 

Simple Mobile offers five cell phone plans with various price points and data allocations. Later, we will get into the fantastic multi-line savings, but this section will talk about the five cell phone plans. They all have unlimited calling and texting and some international calling and texting. Other than that, the only significant difference is the amount of data on each plan. Both unlimited cell phone plans have 40 GB of high-speed data before speeds are reduced. Like all MVNOs, Simple Mobile also reduces data speeds during periods of congestion. 

PRO — Multi-Line Savings

Simple Mobile has incredible multi-line savings. The price of additional lines on all but their least expensive plan is $25 per line, which makes their most costly cell phone plans absolutely fantastic. Simple Mobile’s Unlimited plan, at $50 for one line, is not very well-priced compared to the competition, but adding two more lines makes it around $35 per line, and five lines make it $28 per line. 

A $28 cell phone plan that comes with 40 GB of high-speed data and no contract is an excellent option for many MVNO users. While not as intense, adding lines to any of Simple Mobile’s cell phone plans is a great way to save on everyone’s cell phone line. 

The downside to these excellent multi-line savings is that it’s always more challenging to coordinate multi-line plans, and it makes it more difficult to switch to a new carrier since you have to do it as a group. There are certain carriers (generally, those that don’t offer multi-line savings) where the single-line plans are well-priced. Carriers like Simple Mobile incentivize multi-line plans, so we recommend going with this carrier only if you have at least two buds with which to create a multi-line account. 

PRO — Coverage

Simple Mobile utilizes T-Mobile’s 5G and 4G LTE networks nationwide, providing their customers with fantastic coverage in almost every state. T-Mobile is in the middle of unrolling an incredibly robust 5G network across the nation with hopes of reaching over 90% coverage in the next few years. Though they have not reached their goal yet, all the active towers mean T-Mobile’s coverage is exceptional just about everywhere in the country. Make sure to check your local coverage maps for information regarding the best cell phone coverage in your area! 

PRO — Good Cell Phone Selection

Simple Mobile’s cell phone store is populated with older devices, which is perfect for users interested in an older, more affordable device. New cell phones are over $1,000! Many retailers offer the latest and greatest devices on two- or three-year payment plans, which effectively locks you into their service for the duration of the phone contract. They will also offer great trade-ins, taking your new device mid-contract and starting a new contract with the next generation. This is all well and good for those who love the latest technology and make the most of their cell phone, but for people who use it less frequently, we recommend looking at the affordable devices at Simple Mobile’s market! 

Also, if you do want the iPhone 15, you can always buy it unlocked from a third party and sync it with Simple Mobile’s service with a SIM card! 

PRO — Customer Service

Customer service is essential when it comes to getting a new cell phone plan. Simple Mobile’s customer service is there to help you out whenever you’re facing an issue with your cell phone or plan.  

CON — Data Consumption

Simple Mobile is best for users who only need a bit of high-speed data each month. With their cell phone plans only offering 40 GB of high-speed data, you should be comfortable working with less than that each month to ensure you aren’t stuck with slow data at the end of any month.

CON — Data Deprioritization

As an MVNO, Simple Mobile’s data is subject to fluctuation based on the total bandwidth used in the area. This makes Simple Mobile, among other MVNOs, unreliable in terms of data speeds. Anytime there is a danger of congestion within their parent network, the high-speed data given to Simple Mobile’s customers is slowed down to allocate more bandwidth to major wireless customers. 

This congestion is seen most in big cities around the United States. In those cities, networks are robust but not strong enough to handle the city's residents and the commuters coming in for work. 

It is harder to predict the congestion in less populated cities and rural areas around the country. Festivals, concerts, and sporting events are typical times when a lot of congestion hits the area. If you’ve ever been to a football game and tried to access your phone for just about anything, we are certain that you’ve seen what it feels like to try to use data with congestion. 

At maximum congestion, no one can load anything on their device, but MVNO customers are slowed down far before major provider users are slowed down. Simple Mobile’s service operates without contracts, letting you decide whether or not this service is exemplary for you after a couple of months.

The price of the single-line plans, across all of their plans, is generally more expensive than the competition, but their multi-line savings make up for that!

The most expensive plan, starting at $60, offers 40 GB of high-speed data and 15 GB of hotspot data. • Can You Bring Your Own Cell Phone? Yes! Simple Mobile allows new customers to bring their own phone as long as it is unlocked. To bring your device to Simple Mobile, you must check to ensure that your device is compatible with the new network, but once you double-check, it is a go! 

Simple Mobile Versus the Competition

There are loads of wireless providers competing for your attention. Finding the right provider is challenging, but it pays dividends in the long run. Many Americans pay way too much for their cell phone plan because they pay far more than they need. Simple Mobile is fantastic for users who don’t need unlimited high-speed data each month and want to save. Let’s look at how it holds up to the competition in MVNOs and major wireless providers. 

Simple Mobile vs. T-Mobile

First, let’s look at Simple Mobile compared to the major wireless network T-Mobile. They share the same network, so the quality of the service is the same throughout, but Simple Mobile suffers from the same data deprioritization that all MVNOs do. There are two ways your data may slow down when you use Simple Mobile. One is if you go over your data allocation and, for the rest of the month, operate with slow data. The other is if you are in an area where T-Mobile’s network is congested. If they run out of bandwidth, all of their MVNO customers have their data speeds reduced so their main customers can still enjoy high-speed mobile data. 

T-Mobile is also much more expensive than Simple Mobile. That is the main trade-off between these two companies. If you are a high-data user, T-Mobile is the way to go. They have plans with unlimited high-speed data and a guarantee that your data will always be at maximum speeds, but you pay a premium for that service. If you are a low or mid-data user and don’t utilize your phone as much when outside of Wi-Fi — Simple Mobile is the place to be. 

Simple Mobile vs. Hello Mobile

Simple Mobile has an incredible unlimited data plan. While it starts at $60 a month, multi-line savings bring it down to only $28 a month. It brings you 40 GB of high-speed data, which is more than Hello Mobile can offer. Simple Mobile has great plans, but Hello Mobile offers no-contract service with better starting costs if there is less total data each month. If you are a low-data user looking for affordable service, then Hello Mobile is a great option! 

Simple Mobile vs. Tello Mobile

Speaking of affordable service, Tello Mobile is exceptionally cheap. They don’t require contracts or family plans to get the great prices they have to offer, but their most robust plan only offers 25 GB of high-speed data. This is not a company for even mid-data users. If you don’t use your phone much outside of WiFi zones, then Tello Mobile has better-priced offerings, but the 40 GB cap at Simple is amazing for mid-data users. 

Simple Mobile: Review Summary

The Good

• Competitive prices among MVNOs. Simple Mobile has high prices, but they offer a lot. Simple Mobile is among the pricier MVNOs, and they have a lot of add-ons to their cell phone plans.  
• Major wireless networks. If you switch to Simple Mobile, you get to enjoy savings while leveraging T-Mobile’s network for excellent coverage. You can travel just about anywhere in the country while retaining high-speed data. Just watch out for data slowdowns due to congestion!  
• New customer deals. No matter the time of the year, Simple Mobile offers deals on their plans or their phones for new customers. These savings are usually just a few dollars for the first couple of months, but hey, it’s better than nothing! 
• Multi-line savings. Simple Mobile’s multi-line savings are a huge boon to customers. Try to find four people with whom to share an account to maximize savings through Simple Mobile! 

The Bad

• Data deprioritization. It is not a surprise, but your data will slow whenever there is a high strain on the bandwidth in your area. There is no guarantee that it will happen, especially as T-Mobile creates a stronger network, but it is always possible. 
• High Starting Costs. The single-line costs at Simple Mobile are so expensive that it makes it hard to recommend unless you have people to open a plan with. 

There’s a lot to like about Simple Mobile. Excellent network, affordable plans, and a well-stocked store.
