What to expect from Total by Verizon

Total by Verizon comes with unique perks.

What makes Total by Verizon unique from their competitors is that they’re one of the few MVNOs to offer streaming service perks with their unlimited plans. Each unlimited plan has access to Disney+.  All plans come with unlimited talk and text.

Their plans offer up to 4k Ultra HD resolution when streaming. Total by Verizon plans offer talk, text, and data in Mexico and Canada depending on the plan, as well as access to international talk and text services.

Coverage

Total by Verizon uses Verizon’s network to give users the fastest speeds.

As Total by Verizon is an MVNO, they buy coverage from one of the main network providers with their own infrastructure – specifically Verizon, while others buy from AT&T and T-Mobile.

The best coverage for you comes down to your location. It’s important to compare between providers on a coverage map of your specific city. Ookla’s coverage map allows you to see where cellular towers are located and which company owns them. Comparing tower locations can help you determine which of the big 3 network providers meet your needs.

The Plans

Total by Verizon offers 2 unlimited and 2 limited data plans.

Total by Verizon’s plans range from small to large data amounts, and each plan is deprioritized. Deprioritization means that service slows down in times of high traffic congestion. They also offer a 5% Autopay discount. The average phone user uses about 20GB of data per month, so many users can comfortably use these plans without experiencing much slower speeds.

Let’s talk about each Total by Verizon plan individually, and what they offer for their customers.

Best Overall: Unlimited+

This plan is not only their biggest plan, but the best plan Total by Verizon has to offer. This plan offers unlimited data, and data speeds are at full speed capacity until the 30GB cap. After the 30GB cap, speeds slow to 2G. At 2G speeds, users can scroll social media and send texts or emails, but streaming shows or playing games without WiFi will be difficult. You also get 20GB of mobile hotspot data each month, and access stops once after the cap. This plan also includes a premium Disney+ membership as long as the plan remains active. This plan is Total by Verizon’s best plan because they offer the most

This plan costs $60 for one line, but costs $57 with the Autopay discount. You get 50GB per month for $1.20 per GB at full price.

Pros: separate hotspot data, Disney+

Cons: low data cap for the price (not including hotspot data)

Conclusion: Best for those who travel often

Runner Up: Unlimited

As the runner up, the regular unlimited plan offers unlimited data with 30GB of full speed data. Again, data slows down to 2G speeds at the cap. This plan also comes with 10GB of mobile hotspot data, and access stops at that cap. Total by Verizon also offers 6 months of Disney+ premium.

This plan costs $50 for one line, and $47.50 with the 5% Autopay discount. You get 40GB per month for $1.25 per GB at full price.

Pros: separate mobile hotspot data

Cons: limited Disney+ subscription

Conclusion: Best for average data users

15GB

The 15GB plan, as its name says, includes 15GB of full speed data. After the cap, speeds slow down to 2G. You can also use the 15GB as hotspot data, but access ends after you reach your monthly data cap.

This plan costs $40 for one line, and $38 with the Autopay discount. With this plan, you get 15GB per month for $2.67 per GB.

Pros: hotspot access, decent data amount

Cons: deprioritized

Conclusion: best for light to average data users

5GB

As the smallest plan, the 5GB plan is the most expensive. It offers 5GB of full speed data, then slows to 2G speeds. Hotspot access with the monthly data allotment is also included, and stops after the cap.

This plan costs $30 per line per month, and $28.50 with the Autopay discount. With this plan, you get 5GB per month for $6 per GB.

Pros: hotspot access

Cons: expensive compared to their other plans

Conclusion: best for light data users

Customer Service

Total by Verizon customer service takes place remotely.

Total by Verizon doesn’t have brick and mortar stores, meaning their customer service takes place entirely online and over the phone. There are several ways to contact their customer support lines:

chat support

hours:
8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. EST daily

phone support

hours:

Conclusion

Total by Verizon offers decent unlimited plans.

With their included features, Total by Verizon offers good unlimited plans for the price. Their limited data plans are more expensive for what you get, so their unlimited plans are a better deal.

To have a comprehensive picture of how much data you use month to month and what plan you need, we’d recommend checking your data usage before committing to a plan.
