Twigby Review: a Low-Data MVNO on Verizon’s Network

Twigby is an MVNO that operates on Verizon’s network and provides great value and coverage to all of its customers. They are an all-online company, and they leverage its lack of physical stores to ensure that its customer service is impeccable, its plans are affordable, and its coverage is sound. It is worth noting that Twigby has a 4.2-star rating on Trustpilot based on 578 reviews. People love to negatively review their wireless providers. Loads of MVNOs and major wireless networks have ratings of less than 3 stars, others less than 2. 

For Twigby to have almost 600 ratings and end at 4.2 starts speaks volumes about their service. Let’s take a deep dive and see what’s gotten Twigby such a good rating on Trustpilot, checking out their plans, their services, and how they hold up to the competition.

Twigby has some amazing deals up its sleeves that bring customers in, and they have no contracts to speak of. Twigby works on Verizon’s network, giving customers access to nationwide coverage at a fraction of the cost. Their wide variety of plans at a lot of price points makes switching to a different data plan an easy and hassle-free endeavor. They are a totally online company, and because of that, they have an impressive customer service system that brings customers the help they need quickly and without an overabundance of difficulty.

The amazing new customer deals are what sets Twigby apart, and that, coupled with the lack of any contract to speak of makes it a very compelling MVNO to try. We do not recommend jumping between MVNOs and gathering up all of the new customer deals that you can, but if you read through this review and are interested in Twigby, you can start an account and see first-hand how their service is throughout your first 3 months. The first three months are discounted by $10 for whatever plan you choose, bringing their unlimited plan down to $30 monthly. 

Price of Twigby Plans

Twigby has six plans ranging from no data to “unlimited” data. Their unlimited plan de-prioritizes users after 20 GB of data, which is a little low for our liking but still a considerable amount of data for the price you pay. In terms of value, their unlimited plan is up there due to it giving users the most data, and for users who don’t use too much data each month, we like their 4 GB plan for $20 a month after the discount ends. 

None of their mobile plans have a contract attached to them, leaving this as a great try-out option to see if you like the service or not. Users do not often report dropping calls, missing texts, or slow internet speeds, but the ability to start looking for another service whenever you wish is a nice boon to Twigby. 

What Kinds of Plans does Twigby offer?

Twigby offers, well, mainly one kind of plan. Starting at zero data, users are able to choose their data allocation for the month. Twigby does not charge users for going over their data, but they reduce the internet to 2G data speeds. 2G is enough to send an email, but you will need help to accomplish much of anything at 2G speeds.

Their unlimited plan gives an allotment of 20 GB of high-speed data before you get deprioritized and have to make do with 2G speeds. Twenty GB is a lot, but if you do a lot of video streaming or social media scrolling on your mobile data, you may find that 20 GB is not enough to make it through the month. 

What Network does Twigby Use?

Twigby runs on Verizon’s network. Verizon’s 4G LTE network, and, by extension, Twigby’s network covers almost all of the United States. You can enjoy fast coverage no matter wherever you are. 

Can You Bring Your Own Cell Phone?

Yes! If you have a new phone and wish to continue using it you can absolutely bring your device to Twigby. Their network works with most devices, but not all of them. To check, you have to check your device’s compatibility, make sure your device is “unlocked,” and order a Twigby SIM card!

It is vital to understand the pros and cons of a carrier before making the switch. We like Twigby a lot, but it is not the right carrier for everyone. When looking at a Twigby review, keep this in mind as some of the pros and cons of switching to Twigby. 

👍 What We Liked

• No contract. With a Twigby plan, you can cancel whenever you want without paying any extra fees. This makes it a great choice if you want to try out Twigby and see if it is right for you.
• New customer deals. The deals vary, but Twigby always has a great incentive for new customers. Right now, when you sign up you receive a $10 discount for the first three months of service. In the past, it went up to six months! 
• Flexible plans. With so many plans, Twigby makes it easy to switch to a bigger or smaller plan if you need more data or realize that you have an overabundance of it. Switching from their unlimited plan to a limited-data plan is a great way to save money on your phone bill. 
• International calling and texting. Every Twigby plan includes free calling and texting to over 80 international countries. You can call stress-free, knowing that you won’t get hit with an extra expensive phone bill for doing so.
• Uses Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Twigby runs on Verizon’s nationwide 4G LTE network, providing fast data speeds anywhere in the country. 

👎 What We Didn’t Like

• Low max data plan. Data throttling begins at 20 GB for Twigby’s unlimited plan. For someone who uses a lot of data, 20 GB goes quickly. If you are confident that you need more than 20 GB a month for your daily phone activities this will be a major problem at Twigby. 
• Low phone selection. While Twigby has a selection of phones in its store, they do not have the greatest phone selection. If you are a new customer, we recommend bringing your own phone along as part of the plan. You can purchase phones directly from the retailer or stores like Best Buy that are not attached to any provider, allowing you to make an easy switch. 
• No family plans. There are no multi-line savings from Twigby. Their plans are great on their own, but there’s no incentive to start a multi-line plan to see some extra savings. 
• No physical stores. This is not a big deal for most, but there is no place where you can bring your phone if you run into issues. There is always 24/7 online customer support if you need assistance! 
• Data deprioritization. It is not a surprise, but your data will slow whenever there is a high strain on the bandwidth in your area. There is no guarantee that it will happen, especially as Verizon creates a stronger network, but it is always possible.

Twigby offers a pleasantly surprising variety of services and features with their phone plans. Users of Twigby enjoy unlimited nationwide talk and text, as well as unlimited talk and text to select international countries. Their plans do not come with a wide variety of extras, but the low cost of each makes up for the lack of bells and whistles that often accompany the highest tier of major wireless network plans.

If you are thinking of switching to Twigby, understanding each of Twigby’s phone plans is essential to figuring out if this company is right for you. After the new customer discounts wear off, this is the price of each Twigby plan, and how much data you receive:

Twigby offers a nice set of plans that increase slowly in their price for more GBs given. While the unlimited plan offers the most for a very reasonable price, their 4 and 7 GB plans are excellent ways to save a bit on your phone bill while still having some data to work with during the month. Before you pick any of these plans it is important to figure out how much data you need each month. It is in your best interest to not go over your data, as that reduces your speeds to 2G. In all of our Twigby reviews, the fact that their unlimited plan only gives you 20 GB of high-speed data before you are reduced to 2G speeds is what we like the least about their otherwise excellent service.

How Well Does Twigby Actually Work?

Call & Text Performance

Twigby’s call and text performance is fantastic. They have full access to Verizon’s 4G LTE network and very few users report having any trouble with calls dropping or texts failing to be sent or received anywhere in the country. 

Data Speeds

Visible’s data speeds are excellent. With the exception of when users have deprioritized data, their speeds are some of the fastest 4G LTE speeds in the country. 

Twigby vs. Competitors

Twigby vs. Verizon

Verizon is the clear winner when it comes to data speeds and plan add-ons, but their plans come at a serious premium. Their plans all run significantly higher prices, while both companies use the same network. If you are willing to weather periods of low-data speeds due to high-volume use, Twigby is the big winner. One major plus of using Verizon, however, is that their unlimited plans come with far more high-speed data before users get deprioritized. If you are someone who wants to use a lot of mobile data, Verizon is the winner. 

Twigby vs. Visible Wireless

Both Twigby and Visible use Verizon’s network. Visible differs from Twigby in that they only offer two unlimited plans (a basic and a premium) that, on their own, are better than Twigby’s unlimited plan. They come with much more high-speed data and are priced competitively with Twigby’s unlimited plan. If you know you want an unlimited plan, Visible Wireless has the edge, but if you are interested in the ability to switch to low-data plans then Twigby is the way to go. 

Twigby vs. Spectrum Mobile

Spectrum Mobile also runs on Verizon’s network, but they come with one big catch. Only Spectrum Internet users have access to their mobile coverage. That being said, their mobile and internet bundle is a fantastic deal, and if you have Spectrum Internet we recommend switching to Spectrum Mobile as well. Their unlimited plan is competitively priced and lets you get a big discount on your internet service as well. Unfortunately, Spectrum Internet is only offered in a few spots in this country, and if you don’t live in one of those spots, well, Twigby is the way to go!
